About Ms. Ryan
Teaching Philosophy
I always grew up surrounded by educators. My dad is an elementary school teacher therefore, I was introduced to the life of an educator right from the start. However, I did not fully discover my passion for education until my senior year in high school. Once I knew I wanted to be a teacher I couldn’t wait to start my educational career.
My ultimate goal is to become a school district superintendent. However, there is much to accomplish before getting there! As a high school teacher I want to encourage students to pursue a bright future and help them discover that life consists of endless opportunities. A teacher holds the power to change anyone’s life in an instant. I have chosen to teach science because aside from it being my favorite subject, I believe it is extremely important. I also want to encourage my students to use reading to their advantage. Most students in the El Paso region do not have access to books at home, I will make it my mission to ensure that students have access to literature. Most of this will come from activities incorporated into my lessons.
While in high school I didn’t always have the best teachers. I knew that as I science teacher I really wanted to engage my students in what were are learning. I have been a little unsure of how to do that but the fundamental five is definitely a great way to start! The fundamental five include framing the lesson, working in the power zone, frequent small group purposeful talk, recognize and reinforce and writing critically. I strongly believe that incorporating these strategies into my classroom will help prepare my students for success.
I have about one year left until I graduate from UTEP with my certification to become a 7-12 science teacher. I am extremely excited, as every day I get one step closer to fulfilling my dreams.
